Title: Drafts And Editing
Hello,

Everyone knows what a rough draft is, and what it means to
edit, but did you know there are very specific methods that
you can use in the process of writing to dramatically speed
up your writing?

Most people tend to self-edit during the writing process.
They see a typo, and they feel the need to fix it immediately.
It’s natural, especially if you’re a perfectionist. But you
MUST learn to resist the temptation if you want to be a
faster writer!

When you’re creating your first (rough) draft, resist the
urge to edit and just write. Some people actually prefer to
write without even looking at their screen simply to ensure
they don’t give in to that urge to edit.

You may be thinking, “Why not just edit as I go and save
the time editing more later?”

Well, the creative process is a tricky thing. When you’re
writing and you have to stop for something—even briefly—your
brain stops its thought process to switch to a different one
and you lose your original train of thought. When you go back
to it, it takes longer to pick that train of thought back up,
or you may even lose it entirely.

This is why drafts are critical.

When you create your draft, just write. Don’t worry about
changing typos or anything.

Just write!

When you’re editing, it can be helpful to read your text
backwards instead of forwards. That way you’re analyzing
individual words rather than sentences, and you will
catch more mistakes.

See, when you read what you’ve written, you know what you
meant to say, and your brain will often trick you into
thinking you’ve written exactly that. But when you read
a sentence backward, you see exactly what is written. It
makes it easier to see the mistakes.

It’s also helpful to print your document and read and edit
it offline. You’ll catch more mistakes this way, as well.

Tomorrow is our seventh and final lesson on how to write
faster, and it is super powerful. You aren’t going to want
to miss this!

Until then,

possible, you MUST see tomorrow’s lesson. It’s a killer
tip that will save you a ton of time!
