Title: Killer Pin Descriptions

Hello,

The description of your pin is almost as important as the
image itself, because it serves two very critical purposes.

First, it encourages people to click your pin and visit
your site after they see the image. The whole purpose of
pinning your content on Pinterest is to get more traffic,
right?

Second, it gives you an opportunity to include some keywords
that will help your pin be found in the search results.
Choosing the right keywords and making sure to include a
few of them in your pin descriptions is important for
making sure your pins are found.

Make sure your descriptions make sense, of course, but
sprinkle keywords in naturally to help people find your
pins.

For example:

Golf Swing Tips - Improve your golf swing with these
powerful tips from pro golfer Jim Jimmy.

Do you see how “golf swing tips” is the very first phrase
in the above description? That’s because Pinterest gives
the most weight to words that appear earlier in the
description, so you want to make sure you include your
most important keywords in the beginning.

The next phrase, “improve your golf swing”, would be
given quite a bit of weight, as well because it appears
fairly early in the description.

Lesser keywords like “pro golfer” can appear later in
the description because there is generally less
competition for those phrases, so you can still rank
for them even though they appear later in the
description.

Some people include hashtags in their descriptions, and
it’s okay if you want to do that. Just know that most
people on Pinterest do not search for hashtags, and there
is no official system to take advantage of them, so
using them is all but useless.

The only benefit to using hashtags on Pinterest is when
there is a major trend on other social networks that
might spill over onto Pinterest, causing users to
specifically search for that hashtag. Then you could
include that one hashtag in your descriptions for a
temporary traffic boost while that hashtag is trending.

Tomorrow is our final lesson, and we’re going to look
at a few more tricks you can use to really boost your
results from Pinterest, so watch for it!

Until then,
