Subject: The Basics of Periscope

Now that you know a little bit about Periscope, lets take a look at the basics of using the app. Fortunately, its actually remarkably simple to use.

The first thing you need to do is download the app, of course. Its available on the Apple App Store and Google Play for Android. Once youve downloaded the app, load it up. It will ask you to either log in with your Twitter account or create a new account. You can do either one you like, but keep in mind that if you log in with Twitter, your Periscope account will be connected to it and every time you launch a live broadcast, you can have it automatically Tweet to your account.

Once you have an active account, you should start by filling out your profile. If you linked your Twitter account, it will automatically import your Twitter profile picture and bio. Otherwise, youll need to set his yourself. Upload a good headshot and create a short bio. You might want to include some emoji (emoticons) in your bio to draw attention, but dont go overboard. One or two icons at the beginning and end of your bio is plenty.

Your bio should be short and interesting. It should reflect the niche youre in, and why youre an expert in that niche.

For example:

Im Lee, age 31, blogger for over seven years. I make my income solely with blogging, and I love to help others do the same!

You want to give potential followers a reason to follow you. You want to bring your own personality out, but remember that you dont get a lot of space for your bio, so make it count.

Next, its time for finding some people to follow. Ideally, these will be people within your market, because you want the people who follow that person to hopefully follow you, too. You have a good chance for anyone you follow to follow you in return. Not only that, but people who are looking at that persons followers may also decide to follow you.

Another benefit to following several people in your niche is that you can kind of spy on them to get ideas for the types of scopes you can deliver. You can see what theyre doing that turns out to be popular, so you can learn what Periscope users are looking for, and you can create your own scopes that will bring you the biggest results.

In our next lesson, were going to take a look at some of the things you should do before you create a scope to ensure you are creating the best scope possible, and how you can ensure that you get the most out of every scope you create.

Keep an eye on your inbox, because your next lesson will be coming very soon. Ill see you then!
