Subject: What the Heck is Periscope?

Periscope is a new social app owned by Twitter, who bought it in early 2015. It launched first on iOS, and then on Android a couple of months later. It gathered a million users in the first ten days, and ten million not long after. With millions of users, and only a small portion of them actually broadcasting on the app, its wide open in terms of a huge user base and not a lot of competition.

So whats the point of this app, anyway?

Periscope is a social app somewhat like Instagram, but its made for live broadcasts. Those broadcasts, called scopes, are sent out live as you broadcast, and are then stored on the Periscope server for 24 hours to allow other users to watch them.

The app can also save your scopes so you can make use of them later, which is great for uploading to YouTube or your own website.

How is it different from just recording videos for YouTube?

Well, the fact that videos are live and mostly unscripted can make them more dynamic and interesting. People enjoy watching live video.

Plus, where else can you get such a huge built-in base of potential viewers without so much competition? Sure, YouTube has a massive amount of traffic, but it also has a massive amount of videos. Theres just too much competition in most niches for your videos to get noticed.

But on Periscope, you are competing against such as small base of people that its a lot easier for your stuff to stand out. Theres just a much better chance to be seen when youre competing against so few users.

Plus, there are a whole bunch of little tricks you can use to get more viewers and more followers on Periscope!
