Title: The Dangers of Trying Too Hard To Split Your List.

Hi {Name},

Can splitting your list ever be wrong?

Yes, like eating too much good food can give you a
bellyache, splitting your list can sometimes backfire.

However, the good news is that this only happens
while collecting email addresses.

Your Aweber account (or whatever other service
you use to manage your email list) usually gives
you the ability to generate all kinds of pre-qualifying
opt-in questions.

1.	First Name
2.	Last Name
3.	Email Address
4.	Sex M-F
5.	Age
6.	Location
7.	Birth Date
8.	Place of Birth
9.	Income Level
10.	Occupation

The list goes on, and as someone learning about the
power of list segmentation, perhaps youre salivating
over collecting all this data.

BUT WAIT

Unless you are the government with the ability to penalize
people who do not, you'll never get anyone to actually fill
out all of those opt-in questions.

In fact, if you did find someone who has filled them all out
it's a good bet that they are lying!

People don't like to give out any personal information,
as it is an invasion of their privacy.

You can split test this yourself, but it's usually best to only
ask for someone's name and their email address.

From there you segment the list yourself, using your intuition
and watching what people buy and download.

If someone buys a dress, you may assume they are a female
and so you will put them on the "female list" and market them
other related products geared for the feminine shopper.

Even if you made a wrong assumption, youre still doing a
good job of splitting your list.

For example, the person who bought the dress could very well
be a dude.

So what!

If he bought the dress, he'll probably also want pumps and
purse to match!

Remember collect only names and email addresses, use your
intuition to figure out the rest of the segmenting.
